AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
NEW DIRECTION
LEADS THE CHANGE.
THIS IS AVID
Student Tutorials
Twice a week, AVID Students participate in "Tutorials" which allow students to work through problems they are having a harder time understanding. Each classroom breaks into groups of 4-6 students and an AVID Tutor. One by one students present their questions and receive help from their classmates.
Each AVID class elects two AVID Ambassadors, one male and one female, who represent that class in meetings throughout the school year. These Ambassadors also work on special projects and might entertain visitors at Coleman. AVID Ambassadors are the voice of the AVID Students and bring concerns and ideas to the AVID Elective Teachers, Site Team, and Coordinators.

Here's a look at some of the activities AVID students are involved in!
College Visits
AVID is focused on preparing all students for college rediness and in turn coordinates opportunities for AVID Students to visit colleges in the Wichita area. These visits allow students to see firsthand what colleges look like and how they function. Students also have the oppotunity to meet current college students.
AVID Ambassadors
Volunteering is one of the ways that AVID Students are able to become involved in their community. AVID Students help with some of the Coleman Middle School events and find ways to be assets to the teachers and staff throughout the school year.
AVID Students realize that life skills are important to improve and they participate in events geared toward teaching them applicable skills. These may include learning about how to act during an interview, practicing table manners, and speaking in front of large groups of people.
Team Building
AVID provides events where AVID Students are able to compete in team building activities. These may include games such as "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman," "Crossing the River," and "Duct Tape Skiing." These games allow the students to have fun and learn about teamwork and build practical experience by working on problem solving with others.

Other Special Events
In addition to all of the activities mentioned above, the AVID Elective Teachers, Site Team, and Coordinators seek to provide many fun events that allow AVID Students to have fun and learn about being great students. These events may include nights to have the kids dream about their futures (Aiming for the Stars Night), special guest speakers, Contract Signing Parties, and more!
